Global Health Education

The Global Health program at the UConn Health Center is co-sponsored by Community Based Education and the Center for International Community Health Studies (CICHS). Since the program began in 1986, it has provided more than 250 educational experiences for students in every region of the world. The purpose of the program is to help students understand and respond to the problems and needs of underserved communities, both in this country and in the developing world. This includes learning how to work cross-culturally and cross-nationally in collaboration with health professionals and community leaders. Student experiences include community health research and health education, clinical care and language study. The curriculum times in which students participate in international health are between first and second year, during fourth year and in an optional fifth year.
